Some years ago I managed to obtain around 35 letters which relate to a Great Grand Aunt of mine.
I spent around 18 months gathering all the records of the family. Their story was a very tragic one which took me from an industrial school, a workhouse for the grandfather of the girl and a children's home. (Wales & London)
I finally tracked down the children's home she was sent to and not believing any records would exist I still persisted and to my amazement managed to get all of these letters.
I enclose the text of one just as a sample and to prove to others that you should never give up.
6th June 1906 (A letter from Mr Carnegie of the home to Florence Locke)
MISS FLORRIE LOCKE
Dear Florrie,
I was very pleased to have your letter this morning and to know that you are still getting on all right. I am sorry to know that you were not able to join us on Founder’s Day. We had a very good , a large number of Old Girls and Boys came, everything passed off happily. I am sending on to your third year’s award- Certificate and Badge.
Thank you for your kind inquiries - Mrs Carnegie is away at present , she has been poorly for some time now.
With kind regards,
Believe me,
Your sincere friend.
