  11. I'm trying to find more information about my great grandfather James Curran who was baptised on 22 Feb 1858 by Charles Montague (parish priest) in the Diocese of Armagh. James's parents were James Curran and Margaret Donnelly but I have no dates for them at all. The baptismal certificate is hard to read and it looks like the catholic church of Mullamahon, Ardee but my research indicates it might actually be Mullanahoe Church, Ardboe (Arboe). The 1858 James Curran went on to marry Bridget McCafferty in Glasgow in September 1883.

Any help or information would be wonderful!
    Many thanks,

    Denise

    1. Hello Denise, I can't find anything in Ardee though there are a number of Curran's there. You will find a link to my email addss. here on my blog....if you send an image of the cert I'll take a look.
Failing that google Charles Monarish Priest and see if there is a site to where he served. The RC diocese of Armagh is very large but they may have a database of priests......some dioceses have them.

    2. That should read Charles Montague parish priest.

    3. I can confirm Charles Montague was p.p. for Ardboe, Co Tyrone 1853-1892.

I think we can safely say yours were from Co Tyrone.

      Slán, Kevin.

    4. Hi Kevin, Yes, Mullanahoe, Arboe around 1856 I think. After James was born circa 1858 they moved to Glasgow and had 2 daughters, Susan and Eliza Ann. Margaret died aged 32 of breast cancer in 1868. I need to double-check all of this but it looks fairly accurate so far.

I think Margaret's parents were James and Margaret Donnelly (nee Dowdell) and presume also from Ardboe.

      I'm addicted to this now!

  12. Hi there
This may be a long shot but I am trying to trace any info on my great great grandad Patrick Carolan possible dob 2/6/1869 registered in the parish of Ardee, born to Thomas and Margaret Carolan (nee Rodgers). He shows up in Liverpool on the 1891 census and then in Renfrewshire Scotland in the 1901 cesus married? to Annie with 2 daughters Catherine born 1901 and Mary Ann born ?1899.
If you could find any info on his parents his wife or even if he had any siblings that would be awesome!
    Many thanks.
    Heather.
